Out and About: Summer Days a Time of Reflection

Renovations on the Tivoli are near completion, with only a little more work to be done on the heating and fire alarm systems. Unlike last summer when upgrades were under way, the cooling system is going full speed ahead. It was a good thing, since temperatures in downtown Denver topped 100 many times during the past month. In her department, on campus, in the community and well beyond, it’s clear Mary Coussons-Read is committed to promoting understanding and to bettering the lives of others. Outstanding: Mullin's Light Shines Bright Across Campus
Whoever said “smile and the world smiles with you” must have known Julie Mullin. A program assistant in Alumni Relations for the past decade, Mullin approaches every day, every obstacle and everybody with a smile. Prof Secures Funds for Cancer Awareness Among Latinas
New assistant professor for ethnic studies, Paula Espinoza, was awarded $160,000 to continue her work with the Avon Comadre Breast Health Project promoting mammography screening for early detection of breast cancer. (Click for Full Story)
Teaching Teachers: DWP Fosters Best Practices
The fifth annual Denver Writing Project (DWP) Summer Institute brought together 20 Colorado teachers for four weeks to learn best practices for teaching reading, writing, and critical thinking to students. (Click for Full Story)
Center Seeks Interns to Aid Rural Governments
The Center for New Directions in Politics and Public Policy, the master’s program in political science, is seeking interns for its successful “Best and Brightest” program. In collaboration with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, the program places 20 master’s degree seeking students with small and/or rural governmental jurisdictions throughout Colorado for two-year, full-time paid internships.
