Jennifer Kirschke Jennifer Kirschke has been interviewed by such media outlets as CBS News 4 and Fox 31, but it’s not her own story she’s telling. Kirschke, photographer in the College of Architecture and Planning, is telling—and showing—the plight of children whose homes and neighborhoods were devastated in late August by Hurricane Katrina. Hoards of prospective students enjoy Open House Prospective student families from as far away as Missouri converged on the Auraria Event Center Nov. 6 to explore the offerings at the University of Colorado Denver. “It was very successful,” says Barbara Edwards, director of admissions. “Attendees were very pleased with the event.” What to give for the holidays? Life! The holiday season has always been a time for giving. And one gift that is free might well be most priceless: the gift of life. Six times a year, Kelly Young, student health insurance coordinator at UCD downtown, and Corrie Santos, her assistant, work with Bonfils Blood Center to meet the need for blood.
Mark your calendar . . . - The Adopt-a-School program is accepting mittens, gloves and hats at its Mitten Tree near the circulation desk at the Auraria Library. In addition, the program is also collecting for food baskets through Dec. 15. This season, the program benefits Whittier Elementary in Denver. (Information)
- The downtown Denver campus community is invited to attend an open presentation and question/answer session by the finalists for the director for undergraduate experiences position Thursday, Dec. 1: Kathleen Bollard, 11 a.m.-noon, Executive MBA Room, CU Denver Building, Room 150; John Lanning, 2-3 p.m., CU Denver Building, Room 480.
- Auraria Shares will get under way at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Tivoli Student Union Atrium. Participants will help Child Care Center children decorate the tree. To participate in the Share Tree, take an ornament off the tree on the first floor of the Tivoli. The ornament will have the name of a child, his or her age and a gift wish. Bring an unwrapped gift with the original ornament to the Tivoli Student Union Room 303 or 305 by noon Thursday, Dec. 15. You can also bring non-perishable food items. - Chancellor Jim Shore invites all faculty and staff at the UCD downtown Denver campus to celebrate the season with him at our Holiday Open House at 2:30-4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the North Classroom Atrium. Join your colleagues for refreshments and conversation. This is also an opportunity to say goodbye to Chancellor Shore and wish him well in his retirement.
