Lawrence F. Cunningham, the Joseph and Martha Davis Term Professor at the Business School at the University of Colorado Denver, was also named a Distinguished Research Professor and Fellow at EDHEC Business School, Ecole Superieure de Commerce et de Management in France.
Philippe Very, academic dean of the Business School on the Nice Campus of EDHEC in conjunction with Sueann Ambron, dean of the Business School, announced Cunningham’s appointment.
“Research achievement is a team effort and I have had good fortune in finding colleagues at the University of Colorado Denver and EDHEC who are good friends and outstanding researchers,” Cunningham said of the award.
Cunningham’s areas of research include services and international marketing. His most recent publications deal with how consumers perceive services both in the U.S., Europe and Asia. His research has implications for how globalized service firms market their services to consumers in international environments. He has also developed a recent research stream that examines how consumers perceive and evaluate self-service technologies.
In making the announcement, Very cited Cunningham’s “research contributions and reputation in services marketing on the international level and contributions to the research program at EDHEC.”
Ambron said, “Professor Cunningham recently received the Joseph and Martha Davis Term Professorship as a result of his outstanding contributions in research, teaching and service at the Business School and to his field. Today’s honor demonstrates the impact of Professor Cunningham’s activities well beyond Denver and the state of Colorado. It celebrates his continuing and notable contributions in the international arena.”
EDHEC is one of the most highly ranked and respected business schools in France. The French Grande Ecole offers MBA programs including a World Class MBA, a wide variety of MS programs including marketing and finance. Its international programs are in English. EDHEC has the unique distinction of attaining recent accreditation from the American Collegiate Assembly of Business Schools (AACSB), EQUIS sponsored by the European Foundation for Management Development and AMBA, the Association of MBA Programs based in London.
The Business School at UCDHSC has the largest business program in the Rocky Mountain West with over 1,200 graduate and 1,200 undergraduate students and over 70 doctoral-level faculty. The Business School has several MBA Programs including an evening and 11-Month MBA and seven MS programs including marketing. It has held the prestigious AACSB accreditation since 1985.
Cunningham first participated in the MBA and MSC in Marketing Programs at EDHEC during the late 1990’s. Cunningham has taught Services Marketing and International Marketing on both the Lille and Nice campuses and has conducted cross-cultural research studies with EDHEC facility resulting in important academic publications.
He has published more than 70 articles in referred journals and conference proceedings and over 30 technical reports. His teaching interests in the MBA and M.S. in Marketing Programs include Marketing Management, Service Marketing, International Marketing and Marketing in Emerging Markets and Customer Relationship Management.
Cunningham joined the Business School at the University of Colorado at Denver in 1982 as an Associate Professor of Marketing. He was tenured in l987 and named a Full Professor in 1990. His numerous honors at the Business School include the Outstanding Researcher in the Business School l984, Outstanding Faculty Member 1990, and the Business School Nominee for Outstanding Campus Researcher in 1995, Business School Nominee for Outstanding Campus Teacher in 2002. He was named co-recipient of the Chancellor’s Outstanding Urban Scholar Award in 2000. Cunningham has served as a visiting professor on the Faculties of the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, Helsinki School of Economics, and Bond University in Australia and EDHEC in France.
He received his BS from Niagara University, his MS from Northwestern University and his MBA and DBA from the University of Tennessee. Prior to joining the academic world, Cunningham was a senior analyst for the Corporate Development Department of Eastern Airlines and a Vice President for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, London and South Africa.
