The redevelopment of the cudenver.edu Web site is moving forward. A team of CU Online developers tested and successfully migrated the existing content contained in a “content management system” (CMS) to a new software product called MOSS (Microsoft Office SharePoint Server) with expanded features and functionality.
While a significant effort has been under way to prepare for and stage the technical transition, site visitors likely have not noticed any change. But the migration phase of the site redevelopment project involved moving thousands of pages of content to the new updated system over the weekend of May 19-20.
More web work under way
The next step in the process is two-fold:
-
implementation of additional advanced programming features possible through MOSS
-
beginning the research and evaluation process that will lead to a change in site navigation and architecture and eventually to a new look and feel.
The Web Steering Committee updated the UCDHSC Web Policy statement now being considered by the chancellor. The committee also has created a document on publishing practices and procedures to establish standards for university branding and how schools, colleges and units fit within that structure. The procedures document will be constantly evolving as the university stays current with appropriate changes.
An online document describes briefly the rationale and wisdom in using a CMS.
Carol Martin (303-556-2397) has been hired as a full-time web administrator for MOSS and is available for training and support for site development.
The Web Advisory Group offers web developers a community of support and the opportunity to give feedback on the redevelopment of the cudenver.edu site. Two policies are of particular interest to the community.
