Web redesign team seeks input The CU Online Web Development team along with Marketing Communications and Information Technology Services announces that work is under way for the redesign of the main downtown Denver campus Web site at http://www.cudenver.edu/. In an effort to include the campus community in this process, a Web site has been created to talk about the project, the work and progress as the downtown Denver campus journeys toward the launch of its new site. A sweets deal  Joyce Cheatham of the Chancellor’s Campus Life Committee hands out pens to downtown Denver campus employees at Campus Appreciation Day, Feb. 14. The committee gave out more than 350 cookies and packets of hot cocoa on the second floor terrace room at the Lawrence Street. The next campus community appreciation event will be the rescheduled Chancellor's and President's Open House 2:30-4 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, in the North Classroom Atrium. For two-and-a-half weeks during the winter break, assistant professor John Brett and senior instructor Jean Scandlyn led a group of 16 students to Muldaña, Ecuador, a small Amazon community 30 miles south of the Columbian border, for a field school on sustainable agriculture and community health.

Spring Open House welcomes prospective students The downtown Denver campus welcomes all prospective undergraduate and graduate students to an Open House on Saturday, March 3, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Auraria Event Center on Larimer Street just west of Speer Boulevard. 'Front Doors … at home on the streets of Denver' College of Arts & Media professors Craig Volk and Laura Cuetara, working with their students in the Department of Theatre, Film and Video Production, have broadly researched homelessness. FRONT DOORS, a multi-dimensional presentation features scenes, short films and monologues, and will culminate in a post show discussion with professors, writers and advocates for the homeless. CLAS sponsors awards for promising young scientists The Denver Metro Regional Science and Engineering Fair (DMNSEF) was an opportunity for some of the best and brightest middle and high school students in the Denver area to share their research projects with the public. Denver Post: Emmanuel, curator 'best in Denver' Emmanuel Gallery was nominated as top art space of the year by the Denver Post in its “Best of the Year 06” article dated Dec. 24. Kyle MacMillan, art critic, tapped Shannon Corrigan, curator/director of the gallery, as its driving force in gaining recognition for the gallery. MacMillian cited that she has instituted an “ambitious exhibition schedule that has significantly boosted the space’s role in the local ‘visual arts’ scene” in Denver.” National award named after Math's Greenberg INFORMS Computing Society, the premier organization for computing and operations research, has renamed its service award in honor of Harvey Greenberg, professor of mathematical sciences for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The “Harvey J. Greenberg Award for Service to ICS,” formerly called the “ICS Service Award,” was renamed for Greenberg’s dedication and long history of service to the organization. The first award will be presented at the 11th ICS Conference in 2009. Learning Center film tops at N.Y. festival National Learning Centers’ (NLC) five-part job search series, “The Ultimate Job Search for the 21st Century,” received first place honors at the New York Film & Video Festival for career guidance and training. The ceremony was held Feb. 2 at the New York Auditorium in downtown Manhattan. Doc receives President’s Call to Service Award Richard Fisher, MD, an associate professor of orthopaedics at the University of Colorado Denver’s School of Medicine, was selected by Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) as one of the recipients of the President’s Call to Service Award, which honors those who have dedicated more than 4,000+ hours of volunteer service, the equivalent of two years of full time service. |
