Alumni award scholarships to 39 students

Thanks to raisin’ the best kind of ruckus, the downtown Denver campus alumni association was able to again bolster the educational dreams of undergraduate students through its Alumni Association General Scholarship.
Largely due to the Rock Bottom Ruckus, a fund-raiser held each spring at Rock Bottom Brewery on the 16th Street Mall, 39 undergraduate students received $2,000 to go toward their schooling for the 2006-2007 school year ($1,000 per semester). Recipients and alumni were invited to a fall reception at PF Chang’s China Bistro Sept. 16 to honor the students and distribute the awards. The event was underwritten by the restaurant.
Students representing College of Arts & Media, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Business School received the scholarship, which requires they have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be a Colorado resident and write a personal essay addressing their need.
Julie Mullin, assistant director of the alumni association, notes that since the inception of the alumni scholarship in 1990, more than $538,500 has been awarded to Denver campus undergraduate students.
Alumni partners include MBNA America, College Invest and the downtown Denver Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery.
