Leech a swift, positive force in SEHD

Upon receiving her doctoral degree in research/statistics/counseling, Nancy Leech hit the career path running. Leech, assistant professor in the School of Education & Human Development, has laid a foundation for continuing scholarship in research methodological procedures and issues. For her commitment and swift, positive impact, she was chosen the Excellence in Research and Creative Activities recipient for 2006.

“Her productivity is nothing short of amazing and is particularly dramatic when one factors in that she earned her doctorate four short years ago,” notes William Goodwin, educational psychology division coordinator.

Since her arrival in 2002, Leech has published 13 peer-reviewed refereed articles and has seven more in press, four invited articles in refereed journals, two books with contributions to a third book, five book chapters and a number of scholarly projects, including entries for the Encyclopedia of Measurement and Statistics, technical reports and book reviews.

The past three years, Leech has consulted with faculty about research design—on average counseling two faculty members a week—in her role as a Faculty Research Associate in the SEHD Research Center. She has helped make leadership decisions concerning the center and has conducted several workshops for faculty to increase their research methodology knowledge and skill.

“Nancy’s record is unusual in how quickly she has established herself as a highly productive scholar,” writes SEHD Dean Lynn Rhodes in her letter of nomination. “In addition to her personal productivity, she has increased the research knowledge and productivity of other faculty through her work in the Research Center.”
