Presidential Climate Action Project recommendations released

(Nov. 20, 2008) The Presidential Climate Action Project (PCAP) in the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver released its recommendations in a press conference Nov. 13 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. A copy of the 18-chapter agenda also was delivered to President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team.

U.S. Sen. Gary Hart (ret.) joined Ray Anderson, chairman of the PCAP advisory committee, and Bill Becker, PCAP executive director, in presenting the plan. They also participated in a briefing on climate action to an audience estimated at more than 180 people on Capital Hill. The briefing was sponsored by the Environmental and Energy Study Institute.

The Presidential Climate Action Project is moving into a new phase after two years of conducting and analyzing research on climate science and public policy, and writing the plan. Becker plans to continue meeting with policy-makers to keep the issue of climate change high on the agenda of the next administration. He also plans to present the PCAP plan at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland, in December.

The plan is available at www.climateaction.com/plan/.

A more accessible version of the plan was published in e-book form by St. Martin’s Press. The 100 Day Action Plan to Save the Planet: A Climate Crisis Solution for the 44th President can be purchased through the publisher at http://us.macmillan.com/the100dayactionplantosavetheplanet or other e-book retailers.
