Fellow Faculty, Staff and Students,
As many of you know, there has been an ongoing discussion for a number of months about the status of consolidation and the Regent-approved review to investigate whether or not the consolidation has been successful in its outcomes thus far. I’m pleased to report today that the Board of Regents, through resolution, agreed that the University of Colorado Denver should continue forward as a consolidated institution and the current study is terminated. In their resolution, the Regents reaffirmed both their 2004 decision to consolidate the Denver Campus with the Health Sciences Center and their 2007 decision to name that consolidated institution, the University of Colorado Denver.
I am gratified to report that through further review and evaluation, the board and President Benson have come to the conclusion that the consolidation is a viable, useful structure that is generating important educational offerings as well as administrative efficiencies. This resolution will allow us to continue to improve on what we’ve begun and create even more wins for our faculty, staff and students as well as all Coloradans.
With the consolidation issue decided, it is now possible to begin to resolve the ongoing question of the branding and marketing of our institution. In order to do this, the Regents’ resolution directs that President Benson return to the board with recommendations for naming and branding our two campuses. I expect to return to you in the coming months with their decisions on this issue.
I know that many of you showed support for our continued consolidation, and I appreciate that support as well as the president’s willingness to work with us in reaching this resolution. We have much to accomplish, not the least of which is our ongoing effort to prepare for our upcoming accreditation as a consolidated institution in 2011. I appreciate all your efforts toward our collective goals.
