Pedaling toward a cleaner, healthier, sustainable new day

(June 27, 2009) The University of Colorado Denver – both downtown and at Anschutz Medical Center – boasted record numbers of riders Wednesday, June 24, for Bike to Work Day. More than 800 people signed up to take part in the annual event. About 400 participants checked out the breakfast station at Anschutz Medical Campus and even more bagged some bagels and fruit at the PE Event Center at the Downtown Campus.

Participants included staff and faculty from The Children’s hospital, University of Colorado hospital, University Physicians Inc., Fitzsimons redevelopment Authority and Fitzsimons Transportation Management Association.

An appearance was made by a wooly mammoth from the Aurora Fox Theater along with others vendors and neighborhood businesses such as  Bicycle Colorado, Bicycle Aurora, Noodles, Curves, Starbucks, the sports medicine department, School of Pharmacy, the UC Denver Credit union and many others. Many of the students on the campus bike to work every day and the festivities added fun feature to the morning commute.

Bike to Work Day is an effort by cities, counties, transportation planners, community organizations and others across the state to educate commuters about the benefits of using two wheels to get to work.
