The Department of Sociology’s Criminology Certificate offers an essential foundation for students pursuing careers in criminal justice, victim and community services, criminal law, and non-profit organizations in local and international contexts.

Offers the opportunity to synthesize environmental science content with relevant educational practices. Students will recognize, understand, and apply environmental science in either formal or informal educational settings and use research methods to support disciplinary learning. The integration of courses from various disciplines broadens opportunities for research and teaching careers.

Offers an emphasis on research and environmental stewardship applications for the study of geography. This track can lead to a rewarding career in government (federal, state, local) or private industry, and also prepares students for graduate work.

Integrates previously completed coursework to design a unique on-campus or online major. Students combine two course clusters, either from within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or from within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a different school or college.

Sustainable business development requires an understanding of the political environment, while political understanding must include the role of the business community in economic development. Providing students with both a business foundation and political knowledge, this program enhances their ability to succeed in both business and political environments.

Allows students to complete a BA and an MA in sociology in as little as five years. Students learn qualitative and quantitative skills and sociological content to engage in the study of critical problems for the betterment of society. Certificate options include criminology, families and social welfare, and health and medical sociology.

Fulfills the increasing needs of educators seeking to broaden their content specialization and allows English master’s candidates to specialize in an additional area of study. This does not grant state licensure but ensures competency for those already licensed, provides expertise documentation for those teaching in community colleges, and enables specialization for those with master’s degrees in related fields.

A minor in Criminal Justice will provide students with foundational knowledge of criminology and criminal justice. Students majoring in sociology, psychology, political science and related fields are likely to interact with the criminal justice system in their careers and would benefit from the addition of the Criminal Justice minor to their degree plan.
