April - June 2026 Progress Report
The University of Colorado Denver is committed to ongoing digital accessibility initiatives aligned with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, levels A and AA criteria. Level A represents the minimum level of accessibility, addressing basic web features necessary for some users to access content, while Level AA provides a more comprehensive standard that accommodates a wider range of users and situations. These efforts aim to enhance accessibility for users with sensory, cognitive, and mobility disabilities, fostering an inclusive online environment for all individuals. The university’s commitment to equal access to IT has been more formally stated through the publication of an Information Technology (IT) Digital Accessibility Policy.
Organizational Efforts
Digital Accessibility Committee (DAC)
In Progress: The Digital Accessibility Committee (DAC) serves as the University of Colorado Denver’s organizational authority for digital accessibility.
The DAC operates through focused subcommittees, including Web; Training; and Software & Procurement. These subcommittees coordinate planning, reporting, and documentation of digital accessibility efforts across the institution, with an emphasis on documenting progress, clarifying ownership, and identifying areas requiring further coordination or resourcing.
Upon the hiring (April 1, 2026) of the CU Denver Digital Accessibility Lead new collaboration efforts have been put in place with University of Colorado Anschutz. Cross campus initiatives are being planned and implemented.
New alignment with the DAC, regular meetings with the Digital Accessibility Program Manager and administration is occurring. As the main point of contact, the lead is collating and responding to digital accessibility feedback, inquiries, support requests and complaints/notifications from faculty, staff and students.
Web Subcommittee
In Progress: The group met in April and May and continued working toward our three goals for web accessibility.
- Goal 1: Assess CU Denver’s compliance with level A and AA WCAG standards, including web-hosted PDF files.
- Subcommittee members from University Communications and OIT met with Denver’s Digital Accessibility Lead to plan changes of responsibility for managing Siteimprove users, sites, groups, and reports.
- Goal 2: Measure and report progress in Siteimprove, CU Denver’s automated accessibility checker.
- Also discussed in the meeting above was having University Communications and the subcommittee take more ownership of outreach to web editors on a quarterly basis, something that OIT has done for the past few years.
- Goal 3: Create a user-friendly central web page for digital accessibility information and resources.
- Subcommittee members and the Digital Accessibility Lead worked with OIT to create a digitalaccessibility@ucdenver.edu email monitor for a new Digital Accessibility Report an Issue form in TeamDynamix, CU Denver’s new support ticket system.
- The Accessibility at CU Denver website was updated to reflect this change.
Cross Campus Collaborative Efforts:
- CU Denver has joined forces with CU Anschutz in auditing efforts through the use of Site Improve.
Training and Support Subcommittee
In Progress: While the Training subcommittee has not formally met this quarter, campus digital accessibility training and consultation efforts continue, including:
- Report and Response was retired and as a result, the lead from Report and Response was added to the training subcommittee along with the members to help support training.
- TIPS was hosting digital accessibility trainings and offering 1on1 consultations for faculty and staff. Due to the reorganization these efforts have been relocated to OIT and advertised through CU Denver News.
- A one-off ADA Frontline training was provided in April in response to faculty feedback. This is outside of the scope of the DAC program but was sponsored.
- All digital accessibility trainings have been centralized to the CU Denver Calendar.
- Training event outreach has expanded to multiple departments within the university.
- Data from digital accessibility software is being used for auditing which directly informs trainings.
- Recruitment from faculty and staff has increased.
Cross Campus Collaborative Efforts:
- Relevant trainings are being created and shared with the campus that needs it to better educate faculty and staff.
- Campus wide general digital accessibility awareness training in Percepio is in the process of being created.
- Campus wide communications are being shared and synced.
- CU Boulder hosted a Digital Accessibility Summer Camp from June 10th-12th that several members of CU Denver Faculty and Staff attended.
- CU Boulder hosted a CU Cross Campus Digital Accessibility Meetup on Tuesday, May 26th.
Software and Procurement Subcommittee
In Progress: Work is underway to refine accessibility review milestones, and establish an initial campus software inventory.
- The committee is working to recruit additional subcommittee members to replace departures and ensure wider campus representation.
- The committee is working on greater cross-campus alignment and collaboration with CU Anschutz and CU Boulder.
- Documentation of the procurement process across the CU system was completed. This includes gathering accessibility assessments e.g. VPATS.
- Standard contract language for accessibility was created and will be added to the Risk and Compliance review process to be provided to purchasers.
- Work was paused on revised goals / milestones for Software Exemption process.
- Work continued on analyzing software spending with the goal of building an inventory of products and ensuring accessibility reviews have been completed.
- Review of CU Marketplace Software Purchases is ongoing
- Once complete, the review will inform build out of initial CU Denver Campus Software Inventory.
- Work was paused on initial software questionnaire / inventory for campus to follow up Web Subcommittee work with general campus audience.
Cross Campus Collaborative Efforts:
- Digital Accessibility awareness training was provided to the Risk and Compliance (RAC) team in April. Moving forward this will be updated and provided annually.
Report and Response Subcommittee
Completed: The transition to the TeamDynamix platform was completed. TeamDynamix will be used to manage digital accessibility barrier reports for the CU Denver campus.
- This is being retired as part of the cross campus realignment efforts. Team Dynamix is in place for all digital accessibility reporting. The community as a whole can report a barrier, request website accessibility support and a digital accessibility consultation. There are two sites; Digital Accessibility Service Page through Team Dynamix and CU Denver Campus Accessibility. Requests can continue to be made through digitalaccessibility@cuanschutz.edu, and the newly added digitalaccessibility@cudenver.edu. As always, all digital accessibility reports can be made via calling the Service Desk 303-724-4357 (4-HELP from a campus phone).
- A service routing procedure has been tested and implemented. A backup reporting process has been identified.
Appendix A: Accessibility Status Snapshot
(April 24 Title II Checkpoint)
Purpose and Use
This appendix provides a high‑level snapshot of the University of Colorado Denver and University of Colorado Anschutz digital accessibility collaborative efforts related to federal ADA Title II requirements, identifying areas where work is underway and areas requiring further coordination, planning, or resourcing. It supplements DAC subcommittee reporting and quarterly progress reports and is intended to reflect institution‑level awareness and documented progress rather than a remediation plan or technical audit.
April 24 Title II Context
April 24, 2026 is the federal ADA Title II digital accessibility compliance date. This snapshot presents a point‑in‑time view of CU Denver’s documented progress toward that requirement, including active efforts and known areas needing additional coordination or resourcing, and should not be read as confirmation of full compliance across all digital systems. An interim final rule issued by the U.S. Department of Justice extended the compliance deadline to April, 26, 2027.
Scope and Ownership
Digital accessibility areas included in this snapshot vary in scope and governance. Inclusion is for visibility and planning purposes only and does not imply centralized remediation responsibility where ownership has not yet been established.
