SGA Constitution and Bylaws

SGA safeguards the rights and interests of all students while recognizing and respecting the strength and diversity of each individual student. Here, we put equity, diversity, and inclusion at the forefront of what we do. As the collective voice of the student body, we are tasked with serving and leading our students with honesty, integrity, and respect. The CU Denver SGA promises accountability to the student body by modeling effective and responsive shared governance that enriches the quality of student life.

Meet Your 2026-2027 Executive Respresentatives

The SGA president and vice president are the primary spokespeople for the student body and represent CU Denver on a system-wide, intercampus forum. Additionally, the president and vice president oversee the day-to-day operations of the Student Government Association. They set the SGA agenda for the year and collaborate with the committees to work on improving the student experience. They also serve as the liaison between CU Denver professors, administration, and students by answering questions, responding to complaints, and providing information to all appropriate parties.

Meet Your Student Government Representatives

Student Government Association is made up of 3 different branches, Executive, Judicial, and Representatives. Check out more information about our two branches and how to get in contact with the SGA Advisor.

The Legislative Branch is chaired by the CU Denver SGA Vice President and the Judicial Branch. It is comprised of the Senate which includes three standing committees.

    Senate Committees

    • Civics Committee
    • College Council
    • Finance and Funding

The Senate includes 12 senators and 7 college/school representatives elected by the student body and is chaired by the SGA Vice President.  Additionally, there are two elected members who serve as CU Denver’s representatives on the Student Advisory Committee to the Auraria Board (SACAB).

The primary duty of each senator shall be to represent the student voice effectively in the shared governance of the campus, to provide the students with an enriching and fulfilling university experience, and to promote the general welfare of the student body.

Senators are required to attend weekly Senate meetings and to hold office hours each week to work on designated projects assigned by their respective committees. Additionally, senators work events, perform administrative functions including legislation, support projects relevant to the CU Denver student body, and sit on committees external to the Student Government Association.

The Senate is also responsible for the annual approval of the funding guidelines as proposed by the Finance and Funding Committee.

The Judicial Council oversees all activities of the CU Denver SGA to ensure that the creation and implementation of policies and legislation coincide with the interests of the students, policies, and procedures, and local, state, and federal laws. Judicial Council is also responsible for deciding all matters involving the interpretation of the Student Government Association Constitution and for the oversight and certification of the student election.  Judicial Branch members are selected at the beginning of the Fall Semester and are engaged in work as required.
