Offers a joint program with the College of Architecture and Planning that allows students to accelerate through the master’s in urban and regional planning. Students focus on the important relationship between geography and urban and regional planning and their impact on the spatial configuration of the places humans inhabit and enjoy.

Prepares students to be leaders in the interdisciplinary field of population health. Students become skilled in drawing on theories and methods from the social, behavioral, and health sciences to understand health, health behaviors, and health care. Our graduates are leaders in analyzing the conditions that give rise to the inequitable distribution of health within and across populations.

Offers the knowledge and skills necessary for creating, analyzing, and assessing health communications in a diverse and global world. Students receive a theoretically rich and practically relevant education in how health messages are generated, negotiated, and understood across a wide range of communication contexts, from intrapersonal to the mass media.

Provides training specifically in the economics of the health care industry. Students receive extensive training in mathematical and quantitative analysis, including substantial exposure to applied econometrics with large and diverse data sets and a wide range of statistical software.

Trains scientists to engage in modern economic research related to the health care sector and to personal and public health. The coursework grounds students in rigorous economic theory and modern statistical methods and connects them to institutional details of the health care sector, administrative data methods, grant writing, and the development of interdisciplinary health care research.

The Health Humanities minor critically analyzes historical and contemporary connections among health, medicine, and society. The minor deepens understandings of disease and wellness, pain and suffering, personhood, the nature of death and dying, embodied experience, and the limits of technological knowledge. Studying literature, history, philosophy, rhetoric, the arts, and related social science fields, HEHM students explore the human dimensions of medical practice and how they interact with lived experience, revealing the ethical, cultural, and social contexts of health and medicine.

Provides students and the wider community with foundational knowledge and skills in historic preservation. The interdisciplinary collaboration between the College of Architecture and Planning and the History Department is open to any qualified graduate student or nondegree-seeking student with a bachelor’s.

Offers students a range of political, cultural, social, economic, and environmental factors and perspectives that have shaped their own communities and others around the world. Historical studies inform effective policy, and students gain skills-careful research, clear writing, and persuasive speaking-that remain perpetually in demand.

Develops students’ skills in critical thinking, writing, and independent research, preparing them for a wide variety of professions, including teaching, government service, journalism, business, public history, and law. Options are European history, global history, U.S. history, and public history.

History students not only learn what has happened, they also learn to appreciate and understand the process of change. It’s this perspective that makes the history minor an excellent complement to nearly any major.

Welcomes students whose interests are diverse and who want to look at ideas in varied modes. Students fashion a course of study based on individual interests and goals. By taking courses from multiple disciplines, students develop innovative thinking and analytic skills to prepare them for a rapidly changing world.
