The Social Justice Minor is designed for students who are passionate about being engaged citizens and effecting change locally and globally. To this end, students will be exposed to global perspectives on social movements, conflict resolution, environmental stewardship, critical theory, and grassroots organizing. Earning a Social Justice Minor will make students competitive for graduate school as well as for jobs in NGOs, public health, political office, community leadership, and in the ever-increasing number of modern corporations that seek employees who are committed to sustainable and ethical vocations.

Emphasizes the integration of knowledge across and beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. Students develop interdisciplinary perspectives in areas such as public policy, gender and identity, educational reform, cross-cultural studies, or politics. The program prepares students for advancement in business, education, social service, and government, or for further graduate or professional study.

Offers students qualitative and quantitative skills and sociological content to engage in the scientific study of social behavior, human groups, and social institutions and contribute to the betterment of society. Certificate options include criminology, families and social welfare, and health and medical sociology.

Allows students to complete a BA and an MA in sociology in as little as five years. Students learn qualitative and quantitative skills and sociological content to engage in the study of critical problems for the betterment of society. Offers unique sociological training that prepares students to be sociology generalists, or concentrate on criminology and law, medical sociology, or families and welfare. Students develop strong foundations in qualitative and quantitative methods and have access to resources through the Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Sociology Department’s Sociology of Health and Medicine Certificate provides training in the core research methodologies and theories of medical sociology, examining individual experience, institutional structures, laws and policies that affect health, and broader systems of inequality that lead to unequal rates of illness and access to care.

Offers students seeking an academic credential showing they are prepared to meet the challenges of doing business in the Spanish-speaking world. This certificate is available to all university students as well as business professionals with a prior degree who are seeking to increase their skill set and value in the international marketplace.

Offers the skills and expertise needed to pursue exciting career possibilities, both in government and private industry, at home and abroad. Languages are extremely useful in business, industry, commerce, civil service, law, library science, media, science, economics, and the health and social sciences. Students take 30 credit hours in Spanish and 15 credit hours of business courses.

Examines the language, linguistics, literature, culture, and civilization of Spain, Spanish America, and Spanish-speaking areas of the United States. Includes opportunities for students at all levels to study abroad in Spanish-speaking countries.

Offers students the opportunity to tailor their program to their specific interests. By integrating linguistics, literature, and cultural studies with ancillary work in other disciplines, the degree not only prepares students for doctoral studies but also provides the broader expertise desired by those who plan to pursue or are already pursuing careers outside the university.

A minor in Spanish requires 15 credit hours of upper division courses. A minimum of one course 3 credit hours is required from the Culture and Civilization category. The remaining 12 credit hours can be chosen from any of the four listed categories: Culture and Civilization, Literature of Spanish or Spanish America, Language Skills and Theory, or the 4000 Level courses.
