Your Responsibilities

All students at the University of Colorado Denver are encouraged to review the Student Code of Conduct. This document outlines student rights and responsibilities, behavioral expectations, and the university conduct process. 

Additionally, students living at the Lynx Crossing residence hall, formerly Campus Village, must follow the policies outlined in the CU Denver Housing & Dining Resident Handbook.

Creating Better Outcomes

The Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards (SCCS) works to decrease behavior that negatively impacts the community and create plans to move forward after an incident occurs. We work closely with impacted community members, including students, professors, and staff. If you submit a report, please be aware that we will review the information and determine best steps. This may include contacting you for additional information and providing appropriate updates.

Student Conduct Incident Report

Report student behavior that may violate the CU Denver Student Code of Conduct.

Academic Misconduct

Report student behavior which may violate the CU Denver Academic Integrity Policy.

Classroom Disruption

Report student behavior that disrupts an educational activity as outlined in the CU Denver Disruptive Behavior Policy.

Submit an Appeal

Appeal a decision made by the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards.

Request an AIC Hearing

Students or faculty can request academic misconduct concerns be resolved through the Academic Integrity Committee Hearing process.

Waiver of Due Process

Allows exceptions to the procedures followed in the CU Denver Student Conduct Process.

Review of Records Request

Schedule a time to review all your student conduct reports.

Release of Information

Grant permission for someone else to receive information related to your student conduct record.

CARE Report

Report any concerning behavior or concerns you have for a student’s well-being.

What to Expect During the Resolution Process

The Resolution Process will be initiated when the SCCS sends a Notice to the student. The Notice will include information about the allegation, the related types of prohibited conduct, information about reviewing the initiating report/referral. 

The Notice will also include an invitation to an Initial Meeting. The date, time, and location will be included in the Notice.

The Initial Meeting is not required, but is an opportunity for a student to ask questions about the resolution process. If the student would like to participate in the RJ process, the Initial Meeting is an opportunity for the student to accept responsibility prior to a Formal Conduct Decision being made. If the student chooses not to attend the Initial Meeting, the SCCS will proceed with the Formal Conduct Process.

Learn More about the Resolution Processes

    1. SCCS receives a concern.
    2. SCCS sends Notice to involved parties for the Initial Meeting.
    3. Student is asked to complete the Desired Resolution Survey.
    4. Initial Meeting occurs.The Initial Meeting is to discuss the resolution processes.The Initial Meeting is NOT to discuss the allegation.
    5. The Conduct Educator determined the Resolution Process, either: a Restorative Justice or Formal Conduct Process.
    1. Pre-Conference
      1. Accept Responsibility
      2. Desire to repair the harm(s)
    2. Circle: Meeting with impacted parties and community members to learn about the impact that was caused.
    3. Repair Agreement: During the Circle there will be mutual agreement in what needs to happen to repair the harm.
      1. There is no appeal process.
    4. Case Closed: In some cases, the charges may be eligible to be dismissed and will not be reflected on the student’s conduct history.
    1. Conduct Conference: The opportunity for the student to share their perspective and to learn more about the expectations of CU Denver students. 
    2. Determination: The Conduct Educator will decide if the student is “Responsible” or “Not Responsible”. If responsible, the outcome would be on the student’s conduct history. 
    3. Sanctions: If the student is found responsible for the violation, they could be required to complete sanctions. 
    4. Appeal: If the student disagrees with the outcome, they can appeal the decision
    • Students are welcome to include a support person/advisor to be present in either process. Learn more about their role on our website: ucdenver.edu/conduct 
    • Everyone is expected to communicate honestly. 
    • Participation in either process is voluntary. (Required participation could be an outcome of a Formal Conduct Process.) 
    • The Conduct Educator reserves the right to change the resolution process. 
    • Reasonable accommodations will be provided to the student to fully participate in either process.
