Basic Page

Overview

Basic Pages use Hero: Basic in the hero area and have a modest visual presence, communicating that the page is lower-level in the site hierarchy. 

When to Use

  • Child page under a landing page

How to Add A Basic Page

  1. Using the admin dashboard, select Content > Add Content.
  2. Select Basic Page from the list of options.

Set Up the Page

Add Title

  • This title acts as the Administrative and Navigation title of a page.

Add the Hero

  1. Click the plus (+) icon in the Hero section
  2. Eyebrow: this is the small text that appears above the heading.
  3. Heading: this is the h1, top leave heading of the page.
  4. Subheading: this is the supporting marketing copy to introduce the page.
  5. Hero image: this will display on the right hand side of the hero.
    1. Click Add Media to select an image from the media library or upload a new one.

Add Components

All pages are made up of blocks called components. You can add any number of components to a page. View our Layouts & Components page to learn more about the available options. 

Publishing Settings

  1. Save a Draft

    1. Click the Published toggle to turn off the published setting to save the page as a draft.
    2. Click Save to save all changes as a draft.
  2. Save/Publish Your Page

    1. Ensure the Published toggle to turn on the published setting.
    2. Click Save.
      1. Note: When you save a page and the published toggle is turned on, it is published on your site. Be sure all content is accurate and complete.
  3. Preview

    1. Previewing a page does not save a draft/revision.
      1. Click the Preview button to see what the page will look like live on the site.
      2. Click Back to content editing to return to the page editor. 

Configuration Sidebar: Publishing History

Check publishing information and add revision log.

  1. Displays the publishing status. You will see either the date/time of last save and page author or Not saved yet.
  2. Toggle for Create new revision. You may also want to create a revision of the page. Use revisions to create back-ups of changed pages. You can revert back to them if necessary. This is enabled by default, you will create a new version of the page every time you save. When disabled, you will be able to save edits but you will not have a revision history. Note: This option only appears after you have saved a page.

Configuration Sidebar: Menu settings

Configure the Menu settings.

  1. Expand the Menu settings section.
  2. Enable Provide a menu link toggle to add the page to your site navigation.
  3. The Menu link title is what displays in the navigation. It will default to the page title, but can be updated here.
  4. Description: (optional) this is shown when hovering over the menu link.
  5. The Parent Link places the page in the menu structure of your site. Click the Parent item drop-down and select the parent of your page.
  6. Weight: Use the weight to order your pages in the navigation. Menu links with smaller weights are displayed before links with larger weights.

Configuration Sidebar: Content Governance Settings

This allows the page to be assigned to a content owner. This means the page has to be approved by the content owner before it publishes. 

  1. Click the Content Approve toggle to turn this setting on.
  2. Assign the Content Owner in the search field.
  3. To add additional owners, click Add Another Item and repeat the process from above. 

To Add Last Approved Settings

  1. Start typing the name of the last person that approved the content in the Last Approved By field.
  2. Enter the Last Approved Date and time.

Sidebar Configuration: URL alias

The URL alias is the text that appears in the URL bar at the top of the browser screen. You have the option to create a custom URL for your page. This is typically done for marketing purposes. Change if necessary.

  1. Expand the URL alias section.
  2. Uncheck the Generate automatic URL alias.
  3. URL alias: Specify an alternative path by which this page can be accessed.
    1. For example, type “/about” when writing changing the URL for an “/about-us” page.
