Glossary/Definitions
Abuse includes a non-accidental physical, sexual, or emotional injury to a Child that is caused by the acts or omissions of another person. Neglect includes the failure of the Child’s guardian to prevent Abuse and or take action to provide adequate food, clothing, shelter, medical care or supervision.
A program faculty or staff member who will be responsible for ensuring that the Program for Children complies with this policy, and, when appropriate, contracts with an unaffiliated Program Administrator to operate a Program for Children. Students and student workers are not eligible to be Program Administrators.
Individuals under the age of 18 years, who are not current students.
A Program Administrator is a designated faculty or staff member responsible for administrative oversight and compliance for a Program for Children. The Program Administrator ensures the program meets all requirements of the University’s Child Protection Policy, including required training, background checks, and coordination with relevant campus offices.
Any activity, camp, program, or event in which the care, custody, or supervision of one or more Child/Children is expected to be the responsibility of one or more Child/Children program staff, including university employees, students, volunteers, or third-party staff acting on behalf of or pursuant to a contract with CU Denver, requiring registration and campus approval.
A campus unit that operates a Program for Children or that contracts with an Unaffiliated Program Operator to operate a Program for Children.
A third party who enters into an agreement with the campus to operate its own Program for Children using University facilities.
Incident Reporting
CU Denver is committed to maintaining an environment free from sexual misconduct, and discrimination or harassment based on race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, political affiliation, or political ideology.
An employee and/or volunteer who suspects a child participating in a program for minors is being abused, harassed, mistreated, or neglected by any person(s) shall report such information to law enforcement immediately and shall also notify their supervisor and/or the campus administrator. University employees who are mandatory reporters under Colorado law (see C.R.S. § 19-3-304) shall report pursuant to the provisions in that law.
Affiliated youth program staff also have a reporting requirement to report all complaints of sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, rape, statutory rape, or incest, as well as protected class discrimination, harassment, and any related retaliation reported by University students, faculty, staff, and/or third parties.
Affiliated youth program staff have a reporting requirement as Campus Security Authorities (CSA) to report a Clery Act Crime occurring within our Clery Geography.
In summary, if a minor discloses complaints of protected class discrimination and harassment, or prohibited sexual misconduct, child abuse, or neglect, one must do all of the following:
- Make a Report with the Office of Equity.
- Call the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline 844-CO-4-KIDS (844-264-5437)
- Fill out the CSA form on the Clery website.
Colorado law requires those individuals listed in Appendix C who have reasonable cause to know or suspect that a Child has been subjected to abuse or neglect or who have observed the Child being subjected to circumstances or conditions that would reasonably result in abuse or neglect to immediately report such information to Child Protective Services, local law enforcement, or the Colorado Child Abuse Reporting Hotline (1-844-CO-4-KIDS).
If a Child is on the University Campus the appropriate law enforcement agency to contact is the University Police at 303-556-5000. If the Child is not on the University Campus, local law enforcement may be contacted by calling 911.
Any individual not listed in Appendix C may report known or suspected child 2 abuse or neglect or any circumstances or conditions which might reasonably result in child abuse or neglect to Child Protective Services, local law enforcement or the Colorado Child Abuse Reporting Hotline.
All Program Operators who contract or utilize services with unaffiliated programs must notify such Unaffiliated Program Operators that they must comply with this Campus Policy for the Protection of Children.

- Each Occurrence Limit $1,000,000
- Damage to Premises Rented to you $1,000,000

- Sexual Abuse or Molestation must be included for events with minors
