Start a Student Organization
We are so excited you are interested in bringing a new organization to CU Denver! This will be a journey where your leadership and organizational skills are challenged and we are here to support you along the way. Check out the steps below to get started!
Step 1
Determine the type of organization you are working to create (Department Sponsored Student Organization, Registered Student Organization, or Meet Up Group) and your organization’s financial status (affiliated or associated).
- Review the Recognition and Requirements document to determine type and financial status. Please email StudentOrgs@ucdenver.edu for questions.
- Optional: Sign up for a meeting with a member of the Student Organizations team to answer any questions or to brainstorm organizational structure. To set up a meeting please email studentorgs@ucdenver.edu
Step 2
If your organization is a Department Sponsored Student Organization or Registered Student Organization, find three CU Denver students to be (1) President, (2) Vice President, and (3) Treasurer and a CU Denver faculty or staff member to be your advisor.
- Next, create a constitution for your organization. 2026-2027 Constitution Sample for Student Organizations. (email StudentOrgs@ucdenver.edu for questions) or on the MyLynx Organization Registration form.
- Note: all constitutions must have a non-discrimination clause as stated in the sample constitution.
Step 3
If your organization is a Meet Up Group, you’ll need a President, faculty, or staff advisor, and a philosophy statement. The philosophy statement prompt is found in the Organization Registration Form.
Step 4
Complete the Organization Registration Form.
- Please reach out if you have any questions at studentorgs@ucdenver.edu.
